Job summary

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. offers a DoD SkillBridge Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic internship in Texas to transitioning service members.

You will gain hands-on experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction equipment while learning Kirby-Smith shop operations, safety standards, and customer service practices. This program provides paid training, uniforms, boots, and potential pathway to full-time employment; relocation assistance is available for qualified

Qualifications

• Active-duty service member approved for SkillBridge participation with 180 days or fewer before separation.
• Military experience in mechanical/technical/maintenance field preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals and follow repair procedures.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains under supervision.
• Completes preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled service work on heavy equipment.
• Reads and interprets technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service bulletins.
• Uses diagnostic software and specialized tools to identify equipment issues.
• Documents work performed, parts used, and labor hours in the shop management system.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Communicates professionally with technicians, service managers, and customers regarding equipment status and repairs.
• Participates in on‑job training and shadows experienced technicians across equipment specialties.
• Consistent and reliable on‑site attendance.
• Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
