Job summary

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. is offering a DoD SkillBridge Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic internship designed to provide transitioning service members with hands-on training in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment.

You will learn shop operations, safety standards, and customer service while working under supervision. Successful interns may transition to full-time employment as Shop Service Technicians after separation.

Qualifications

• Active-duty service member approved for SkillBridge within 180 days of separation.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals and follow repair procedures.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds in a shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction equipment under supervision.
• Learn Kirby-Smith shop operations, safety standards, and customer service practices.
• Document work performed, parts used, and labor hours in the shop system.
• Attend on-the-job training and shadows experienced technicians across equipment types.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and participate in safety practices.
