Job summary

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. offers a DoD SkillBridge internship for Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic, providing hands-on diagnosis, repair, and maintenance experience on heavy construction and industrial equipment under supervision.

Interns gain civilian-technical skills, learn shop operations and safety standards, with potential for full-time employment after military separation based on performance and need.

Qualifications

• Active-duty service member approved for SkillBridge with 180 days or fewer remaining before separation.
• Military experience in mechanical/technical maintenance preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals and follow detailed repair procedures.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains under supervision.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and routine service on heavy equipment.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
• Use diagnostic software and tools to identify equipment issues.
• Document work, parts, and labor hours in the shop system.
• Maintain clean, safe work area and communicate status to team.
• Attend on-the-job training and shadow experienced technicians.
• Ensure on-site attendance and perform related duties as assigned.
