Job summary

Sharks Sports and Entertainment, LLC, at Oakland Ice Center, invites applications for a part-time Skate Guard to help maintain safe, welcoming public skating sessions and assist guests with equipment and information. You’ll monitor sessions, handle skate rentals, perform arena cleaning, enforce policies, and respond to emergencies while upholding SSE’s standards and customer service excellence.

TITLE: Skate Guard

POSITION TYPE: Part Time - Non-Exempt

COMPANY: Sharks Sports and Entertainment, LLC

LOCATION: Oakland Ice Center

REPORTS TO: Assistant General Manager

POSTING DATED: September 2026

Pay Range: $22.57 per hour

Position Summary

The Skate Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of the ice arena. This role involves monitoring public skating sessions, providing customer service, maintaining equipment, and performing general upkeep duties. The Skate Guard must be proactive in ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all guests at Sharks Ice.

Shift Information

• You must be available to work 2/3rds of each month, including evenings and weekends with some holidays.

Essential Functions

• Maintains rental skates, boots, blade and boot replacement/repair.
• Monitors all public session skating events both on and off the ice to ensure safety and respond to customer needs
• Assists in the general maintenance and upkeep of the ice arena area including: sweeping, cleaning, and other custodial duties.
• Provides excellent customer service at all times, and ensures that all policies are properly implemented.
• Tends the skate rental counter and issues equipment during public skating sessions and birthday parties.
• Maintains rental skates, boots, blade and boot replacement/repair.
• Knowledgeable of session times, rink information, and general information.
• Reports any issues or problems to supervisor on duty
• Skates on the ice as needed.
• Knows emergency procedures for equipment and facility evacuation plan.
• Ensures the overall cleanliness of Oakland Ice Center.
• Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of ice skating and skate maintenance.
• Must be able to wear SSE assigned uniform during all shifts
• Proficient ice skater is preferred.
• Prior ice rink experience is preferred.
• Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job that are physically demanding.
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in a cold environment.
