Job summary

Backblaze is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer II to enhance the stability, scalability, and reliability of its services and infrastructure. The role emphasizes building automation, maintaining observability, and supporting incident response to keep customer-facing systems performant.

You will collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to embed reliability practices, contribute to CI/CD, and improve tooling. A focus on reducing toil and improving efficiency is key.

Qualifications

• Build automation and tooling to reduce toil and improve reliability.
• Maintain observability through metrics, logging, and tracing.
• Support incident response with structured post-incident reviews.

Responsibilities

• Support the availability and durability of critical services across production environments.
• Monitor health with SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets; escalate when thresholds are at risk.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident reviews to drive improvements.
• Follow ITIL/OSS processes for incident, change, and capacity management.
• Develop automation for common tasks; contribute to monitoring and alerting frameworks.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations; assist in capacity planning and DR exercises.
• Document systems, share learnings, and promote a reliability-focused culture.
• Identify recurring issues and propose long-term improvements.
