Job summary

Backblaze is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to lead the stability, scalability, and reliability of our production systems. You will guide cross-functional teams, define observability strategies, and leverage AI/automation to mitigate issues and meet customer demand.

The role emphasizes long-term platform stability, collaboration with executives and customers, and architectural oversight across storage design, SLIs/SLOs, and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in site reliability, systems engineering, or operations.
• Experience with hyperscalers and large-scale production systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the availability and durability of critical services across production environments.
• Drive incident response, on-call rotations, and post-incident reviews to improve service reliability.
• Design and implement monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks and runbooks.
