Job summary

The City of Chesapeake Public Works Traffic Operations Division seeks a creative, hands-on Sign Fabricator I to join its Sign Shop. The team produces regulatory traffic signs, street signs, and special event signs per federal, state, and local rules. If you have sign fabrication or related experience, we’d like to hear from you.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in drafting, computer graphics, or closely related fields.
• Minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
• Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.

Responsibilities

• Designing, fabricating, installing, and repairing signs and other traffic control devices.
• Preparing pavement markings.
• Programming and setting up variable message signs, speed radar trailers, and speed radar signs.
• Maintaining material inventories and preparing reports related to sign fabrication.
• Planning work methods and completing assignments under general supervision.

Job Description

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires high school diploma or GED / HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in drafting, computer graphics, or closely related fields.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards . Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
