Job summary

WSP is seeking a Shore Power Electrical Engineer to support projects from concept to construction, coordinating with Federal and Commercial teams across multiple sites. The role requires design of shore power systems, protection schemes, and SCADA integrations, with strong NEC/NFPA knowledge.

Candidates should have a BS in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years' experience, and be eligible for PE registration. Travel up to 25% may be required, with preferred location Virginia Beach, VA or other listed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from ABET accredited college or university, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for small, medium, and large capital projects.
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineering registration within one year if not already licensed.
  • Due to client requirements, US citizenship is required.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and NFPA 780 Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, UFC, CSTO, IEEE and related standards.
  • Revit and AutoCAD proficiency.
  • SKM Power Tools for Windows, Easy Power, and/or ETAP proficiency.
  • Experience in site lighting design.
  • MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project proficiency.
  • Travel up to 25% may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support shore power projects from application through detailed design and construction.
  • Perform electrical design for grounded and ungrounded shore power systems.
  • Develop electrical design deliverables including: One-line diagrams, Control and relaying schematics, Wiring diagrams, Conduit and cable sizing/routing, Substation and equipment layouts, Equipment selections and specifications, SCADA and metering systems.
  • Perform electrical engineering calculations and design analyses per NEC, NESC, UFC, CSTO, IEEE and related standards.
  • Support protective relaying and power system studies: short-circuit analysis, time-current coordination, relay settings, arc flash analysis, protection scheme development.
  • Coordinate with clients and disciplines to meet project needs and establish direction.
  • Develop waterfront shore power construction plans, cost estimates, and basis of design.
  • Involved from inception to completion in waterfront design and construction.
  • Coordinate with government/clients and vendors for design oversight.
  • Assist with permit reviews and construction inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Incorporate future-ready techniques and operating strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on Federal/State projects and business development.
  • Uphold ethics and adhere to WSP Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed.
