Job Summary:

The Shop Mechanic Foreman is responsible for overseeing all preventive maintenance and repairs for the Paving Division’s truck fleet and other equipment. This position will manage day-to-day shop operations to ensure efficiency and productivity while maintaining a safe work environment. Union membership is required within 60 days of employment for this position.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform preventative maintenance on dump trucks, pavers, and other equipment.
2. Maintain equipment logs and ensure timely servicing.
3. Retrieve and repair disabled vehicles.
4. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
5. Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company policies.
6. Take inventory and ensure essential shop supplies are available.
7. Communicate effectively with and report to the Shop Superintendent in Napoleon.
8. Conduct field repairs on vehicles and equipment as needed.

Skills/Abilities:

1. Proficiency in the efficient and safe maintenance of vehicles, including:

• Drive trains (transmissions, clutches, axles)
• Truck systems (lubrication, cooling, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, steering, exhaust)
• Welding and burning skills (certificate preferred).

Possess and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire.

Possess and maintain mechanic’s tools.

Strong interpersonal, math, and computer skills.

Effective communication skills, both in person and on the phone.

Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and build positive relationships.

Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Completion of a vocational training program in automotive technology or a related field preferred.
3. Minimum of five years of experience in truck and equipment repair and maintenance preferred.
4. Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools preferred.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

1. Prolonged periods of standing.
2. Must be able to access and navigate the facility.
3. Ability to safely climb and descend ladders.
4. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
5. Moderate noise levels in operational areas.
6. Work may be required outside of normal business hours.
