Job summary

Serco Inc. seeks an Advanced Mechanical Assembler for a high-profile U.S. Navy project, supporting shipboard installations and military facilities.

You will fabricate assemblies from blueprints, perform preventive maintenance, and operate related equipment aboard ships in Newport News, VA / Norfolk, VA, with potential travel. Requires DoD Secret clearance eligibility, OSHA and respirator qualifications, and 5+ years handling power tools and complex assemblies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
• Ability to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS) and pass a background check.
• OSHA certification and respirator qualification are required.
• Forklift certification is preferred or required where applicable.
• Minimum 5 years using power tools and assembling mechanical assemblies.
• Firewatch and Cable Installer certifications are desirable.
• Minimum 5 years of shipboard experience in a related field.
• Ability to read drawings, drill holes, cut metal, and work with blueprints.
• Willing to work second/third shifts and overtime; travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Follow blueprints, guidelines and diagrams to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
• Maintain equipment through preventive maintenance and report malfunctions.
• Work with standard concepts and procedures; use limited supervision to plan tasks.
• Perform duties aboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations, tolerating varied conditions.
• Assist with HAZMAT control and safety; bolt/unbolt cableways and deck plates.
• Operate light machinery/equipment and position/join/wrap pipes and conduits.
• Read drawings and assemble a wide range of assemblies; travel as needed.
