Job summary

Serco Inc. is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to join our team supporting the U.S. Navy in Chesapeake, VA. The role focuses on troubleshooting, electrical work on ships, and recording engineering data to help deliver high-profile naval projects.

You will operate standard test equipment, read drawings, and maintain safety and QA procedures. A high school diploma and the ability to obtain DoD clearance are required; travel up to 10% may be involved.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Respirator qualification and wear PPE throughout the shift.
  • Experience in electrical work on ships/related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of combined experience in listed areas.
  • Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors.
  • Read drawings (Tradesman level).
  • Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP.
  • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts.
  • Layout & mount electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge.
  • Reading drawings (Apprentice level).
  • Band/pack MCTs/RISE.
  • Layout & mount small equipment as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter.
  • Safety: participate in safety surveillances & walk-thru.
  • NAVSEA familiarity in electrical repair, fabrication, installation.
  • Ability to work in high heat spaces and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
  • Test and modify setups; operate standard test equipment and record data.
  • Perform electrical work on ships, boats, and marine equipment.
  • Gather, record, and compute engineering data; plot data and graphs.
  • Conduct routine tests and record results.
