Job summary

Serco Inc. is hiring an Experienced Engineering Technician to support U.S. Navy shipboard systems at Newport News, Virginia. You will join a collaborative team delivering wiring, cabling, and C5ISR installations on U.S. Naval Ships.

The role requires troubleshooting, electrical work, and data recording; candidates must have a high school diploma, be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance, pass background checks and drug screening, and travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
• Ability to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo background investigation and pass a drug screening.
• Ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
• Ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
• 5 years of experience in electrical work in a related field and/or shipboard.
• Experience managing a crew of various trades (6-10 people).
• Combination of 5 years of experience in: attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors; reading drawings (Tradesman level); QA/ safety competencies; prelim QA testing; space closeouts; layout and mounting of equipment; basic QA documents and metering.

Responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting and correct malfunctions.
• Conduct various tests or experiments with minor modifications as needed, operate standard test equipment and record data.
• Perform electrical work on ships, boats, and marine equipment.
• Gather and maintain records of engineering data and test results; compute and plot data.
• Perform routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjust test equipment; record data.
