Job summary

Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is seeking a Shift Supervisor to organize front desk operations, coordinate non-clinical needs of families, and ensure client requests are met at the Pugsley Family Shelter in the Bronx. The role emphasizes safety, client engagement, and adherence to policies.

The position oversees daily activities, assists with transportation and lodging logistics, and executes emergency response when needed, including CPR and first aid.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, with at least one year of relevant experience.
• Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record that meets agency policy preferred.
• Ability to communicate professionally (oral and written) with Spanish-speaking clients preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise front desk staff activities to ensure adherence to policy and procedures and ensure proper documentation of activities.
• Monitor building safety and make scheduled rounds of assigned areas to safeguard clients and property.
• Oversee client participation in daily program activities and provide optimal customer service.
• Arrange and transport clients to appointments, escort clients to assigned apartments, distribute linens and supplies, and drive agency vehicles if assigned.
• Accept new clients into the electronic records database.
• Provide emergency response, including crisis management, first aid, CPR, and fire response as needed.
• Complete incident reports as outlined by the program manual and funder guidelines.

Position

Shift Supervisor

Organizes front desk operations, coordinates the non-clinical needs of families and guests, and ensures client requests are met. The Shift Supervisor orients clients to the program, engages them in services, protects client rights, promotes safety, and clarifies facility rules. This role operates at the Pugsley Family Shelter, an emergency family shelter located in the Bronx for families experiencing homelessness.

Minimum Qualifications
