Position Overview

The Developmental Disabilities Division believes that our role in supporting people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities is to live meaningful lives as determined by the person. All persons shall live a life with dignity conforming to each personal value system. Our philosophy is for the people we serve to be part of the community, to live fulfilling lives driven by their choices and to be as independent as possible. Our mission is to accomplish this with well‑trained staff, access to the quality health care, clinical supports, and a clean and safe home. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that people supported have the support and resources necessary to live meaningful lives, and that they align with their needs and aspirations within their respective program and communities. He/she/they will monitor and ensure active adherence to all plans for each person supported with intellectual/developmental disabilities. The Shift Supervisor will ensure proper supports are in place and necessary resources are made available to Direct Support Professionals to ensure proper adherence to person supported scheduled activities.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures that a person‑centered focus is used to provide care and support by all staff who work within the program, actively seeking out different approaches; promotes the independence and self‑determination of individuals by utilizing person‑centered practices that focus on the individuals’ strengths and preferences while simultaneously addressing their needs; promotes participation in activities of meaningful daily living, such as vocation, recreation, volunteerism, engagement; ensures a positive climate that promotes respect and dignity for people supported; provides opportunities for people supported to personalize their environment, schedule and experiences in program; supports the person’s independence, choice and outcomes.
  • Provides habilitation services to each client as prescribed in their service plans (CFA, Individual Service plan, Habilitation plan); responsible for overall functioning of the facility during the absence of the Program Director; in the absence of the Program Director, supervises and instructs all Direct Support Professionals on shift; responsible for people supported and agency funds and expenditures during shift (petty cash, recreation, etc.); ensures coverage of a shift when a Direct Support Professional is absent; acts as a functioning member of the staff, meeting the needs of the people supported; responsible for the physical condition of the program, including agency vehicles; ensuring that they are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition; participates in staff meetings, supervisors’ workshops, interdisciplinary team (IDT) and committee meetings; channels approved information pertaining to staff and agency to Program Specialists; provides supervisory counseling and discipline to Direct Support Professionals as necessary; identifies facility needs and makes the relevant staff aware; ensures optimal utilization of the resources available in order to achieve efficiencies.
  • Carries out policies and procedures of SUS in accordance with OPWDD and other funding sources; reports all incidents, ensuring consistent adherence to OPWDD and agency policies; assesses and monitors staff productivity on an ongoing basis; responds appropriately to community, family and agency contacts; maintains, develops and supports the person support to staff assignment; meets with Program Director on a regular basis to discuss pertinent shift and Direct Support Professional’s issues and successes; monitors Direct Support Professional’s time sheets as needed; ensures fire drill completion on shift.
Job Requirements
  • HS Diploma or GED required, Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • One year’s experience providing direct services to developmentally disabled persons preferred.
