Job summary

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis seeks a Control Room Shift Engineer II to operate and maintain the Central Energy Plant, including steam, chillers, cooling towers, and related systems. The role requires knowledge of BAS (Metasys), CMMS, and a strong safety mindset. A Steam Engineer First Class license is required by law; EPA refrigerant recovery is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/ GED required.
• Technical School Diploma or Certification preferred.
• Experience in hospital facilities management preferred.
• Knowledge of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and BAS.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure facility performance.
• Ensure safe operation and maintenance of a hospital facility; maintain safety focus.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic and pneumatic control systems.
• Monitor cleanliness and upkeep of common areas and equipment.
• Learn from senior team members and supervisors to improve technical expertise.
• Assist with installation/modification of new systems and provide oversight.
• Train junior personnel as needed.
• Maintain familiarity with campus utilities and troubleshoot as required.
• Respond to critical alarms and dispatch appropriate personnel.
• Communicate effectively in written and spoken English across platforms.
• Maintain proficiency with Metasys, tube system controls, medical gas alarms, and Simplex fire alarm monitoring.
• Serve as liaison between facilities operations, security, and vendors.
• Operate on-site steam and chiller plant within the Central Energy Plant; document required monitoring activities.
• Maintain knowledge of campus buildings and utilities for effective operations.
• Perform other duties to meet department goals and ensure reliable service.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
