Job summary

Central Steel & Wire, part of the Ryerson family of companies, is seeking an Area Lead on the third shift to oversee the warehouse team and support the shift supervisor in achieving production goals.

The role requires leadership, experience operating material handling equipment, and the ability to learn SAP. You will drive safety, mentor staff, and ensure efficient, accurate material flow in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in a warehouse/leadership role.
• Experience operating overhead crane, side loader, forklift or similar material handling equipment.
• Strong interpersonal communication and leadership abilities with a desire to advance.
• Ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment and meet production goals.
• Willingness to learn SAP and become proficient in the system.
• Physical ability to pass vision, hearing, and mobility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the warehouse team and assist the third shift supervisor with production goals.
• Operate equipment such as overhead crane, side loader, and forklift.
• Lead pre-shift safety and production huddles; address workplace hazards.
• Train staff and develop team members; coach and mentor as needed.
• Coordinate repairs for machinery and reassign personnel during downtime.
• Fulfill short-term management duties as required.

As an Area Lead with Central Steel & Wire, you will oversee the warehouse team and assist the third shift Supervisor with production and department goals.

This position is third shift. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 10pm to 6:30am.

Roles and Responsibilities

• The ideal candidate will operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift
• It is also a requirement that when short-handed or during periods of high demand, Leadership is responsible for filling in where needed
• Responsible for training staff to ensure they are fully trained for the tasks they are performing. Coaches, mentors, counsels, and develops
• Effectively leads pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team
• Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards
• Reacts to machinery breakdowns by directing repairs when possible, arranging for outside repairs or reassignment of personnel as needed
• Assume short-term responsibility for management absences as requested

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• 3-5 years of experience
• Experience operating equipment and ability to recognize materials in the service center
• Possesses leadership abilities and has a desire to advance and solid interpersonal communication skills required
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment
• Flexible, dependable, and solutions-oriented
• The successful candidate is expected to develop proficiency in SAP as part of their role. Prior experience is not required, but a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in SAP is essential.
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility

Salary: $29.09 - $30.40 per hour. A starting rate higher than $29.09 per hour is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
