Job summary

Central Steel & Wire, part of the Ryerson Family of Companies, seeks an Area Lead to oversee the warehouse team and assist the second shift Supervisor with production and department goals in a fast-paced metals environment.

This is a second-shift position, Monday through Friday from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, with responsibilities including equipment operation, training staff, safety huddles, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in a related role.
• Proven leadership abilities with strong interpersonal communication.
• Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-changing environment.
• Willingness to learn SAP and become proficient.
• Physical ability to pass required physicals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the warehouse team and assist the 2nd shift Supervisor with production and department goals.
• Lead pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team.
• Train staff to ensure tasks are performed correctly and safely.
• Fill in where needed when short-handed or during high demand.
• Address machinery breakdowns and coordinate repairs as needed.

As an Area Lead with Central Steel & Wire, you will oversee the warehouse team and assist the second shift Supervisor with production and department goals.

This position is second shift. The hours for this posiiton are Monday through Friday from 3pm to 11:30pm.

Roles and Responsibilities

• The ideal candidate will operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift
• It is also a requirement that when short-handed or during periods of high demand, Leadership is responsible for filling in where needed
• Responsible for training staff to ensure they are fully trained for the tasks they are performing. Coaches, mentors, counsels, and develops
• Effectively leads pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team
• Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards
• Reacts to machinery breakdowns by directing repairs when possible, arranging for outside repairs or reassignment of personnel as needed
• Assume short-term responsibility for management absences as requested
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• 3-5 years of experience
• Experience operating equipment and ability to recognize materials in the service center
• Possesses leadership abilities and has a desire to advance and solid interpersonal communication skills required
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment
• Flexible, dependable, and solutions-oriented
• The successful candidate is expected to develop proficiency in SAP as part of their role. Prior experience is not required, but a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in SAP is essential.
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility

Salary: $29.09 - $30.40 per hour. A starting rate higher than $29.09 per hour is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
