Job summary

Central Steel & Wire is seeking an Area Lead to supervise the warehouse team on the second shift (Tuesday–Saturday, 10pm–6:30am). The role emphasizes safety, productivity, and mentoring staff to achieve production goals.

You will coordinate material handling operations, participate in safety and production huddles, and guide staff through training while managing short-term absences and equipment downtime. SAP proficiency will grow on the job.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in a related role.
• Ability to operate or supervise material handling equipment and understand safety protocols.
• Willingness to learn SAP and apply it in daily tasks.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the warehouse team on the second shift (Tue-Sat, 10pm-6:30am).
• Lead pre-shift safety and production huddles and drive corrective actions.
• Coach and mentor staff; train new hires and ensure task proficiency.
• Coordinate maintenance or repairs of equipment and respond to downtime promptly.
• Fill in for leadership during periods of high demand or absence as needed.

Job description

As an Area Lead with Central Steel & Wire, you will oversee the warehouse team and assist the third shift Supervisor with production and department goals. This position is second shift. The hours for this position are Tuesday through Saturday from 10pm to 6:30am.

Roles and Responsibilities

• The ideal candidate will operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift
• It is also a requirement that when short-handed or during periods of high demand, Leadership is responsible for filling in where needed
• Responsible for training staff to ensure they are fully trained for the tasks they are performing. Coaches, mentors, counsels, and develops
• Effectively leads pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team
• Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards
• Reacts to machinery breakdowns by directing repairs when possible, arranging for outside repairs or reassignment of personnel as needed
• Assume short-term responsibility for management absences as requested
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• 3-5 years of experience
• Experience operating equipment and ability to recognize materials in the service center
• Possesses leadership abilities and has a desire to advance and solid interpersonal communication skills required
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment
• Flexible, dependable, and solutions-oriented
• The successful candidate is expected to develop proficiency in SAP as part of their role. Prior experience is not required, but a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in SAP is essential.
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility

Salary: $29.09 - $30.40 per hour. A starting rate higher than $29.09 per hour is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
