Job summary

Central Steel & Wire (CSW), part of the Ryerson family, seeks an Area Lead for the 3rd shift at University Park, IL. You will oversee the warehouse team and support the shift supervisor in achieving production and department goals.

The role runs Monday through Friday, 11:00 PM–7:30 AM. Candidates should have leadership ability, comfort with material handling equipment, and a proven track record of teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in a warehouse/leadership role.
• Experience operating material handling equipment and recognizing materials.
• Willingness to learn SAP and apply it on the job.
• Ability to train and coach staff and lead safety and production huddles.

Responsibilities

• Lead warehouse team and assist the shift supervisor with goals.
• Operate overhead crane, side loader, and forklift as needed.
• Train staff and develop team performance.
• Lead pre-shift safety and production huddles.
• Coordinate repairs and respond to equipment breakdowns when possible.

As an Area Lead with Central Steel & Wire, you will oversee the warehouse team and assist the third shift Supervisor with production and department goals.

This position is third shift. The hours for this position are through Monday through Friday from 11pm to 7:30am.

Roles and Responsibilities

• The ideal candidate will operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift
• It is also a requirement that when short-handed or during periods of high demand, Leadership is responsible for filling in where needed
• Responsible for training staff to ensure they are fully trained for the tasks they are performing. Coaches, mentors, counsels, and develops
• Effectively leads pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team
• Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards
• Reacts to machinery breakdowns by directing repairs when possible, arranging for outside repairs or reassignment of personnel as needed
• Assume short-term responsibility for management absences as requested
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• 3-5 years of experience
• Experience operating equipment and ability to recognize materials in the service center
• Possesses leadership abilities and has a desire to advance and solid interpersonal communication skills required
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment
• Flexible, dependable, and solutions-oriented
• The successful candidate is expected to develop proficiency in SAP as part of their role. Prior experience is not required, but a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in SAP is essential.
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility

Salary: $29.09 - $30.40 per hour. A starting rate higher than $29.09 per hour is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
