Job summary

Community Outreach, Inc. seeks a SOCIAL SERVICES ASSISTANT to supervise shelter clients, ensure compliance with rules, and support residents with referrals and services. You will coordinate with community partners and assist with daily operations to maintain a safe, respectful environment.

The role includes handling basic screenings, documentation, and crisis response while maintaining client confidentiality and performing routine tasks across day, swing, and night shifts.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent.
• Commitment to COI's mission and goals, and being a client advocate.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management.
• Computer proficiency.
• Excellent dependability, collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries with clients and confidentiality, and successfully complete a state background check.
• Ability to lift or maneuver 40 lbs., as well as stand, kneel, stoop, bend and sit.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Respond to requests and needs for food boxes, housing screenings, messages, mail and other services.
• Supervise the use of shelter facilities, including inventory control and keeping areas stocked and organized.
• Interact with clients professionally, maintaining dignity and respect.
• Ensure residents complete daily routines while complying with agency rules.
• Answer inquiries in control centers and perform administrative duties.
• Conduct client urinalysis and breathalyzer readings as required.
• Perform housekeeping functions: cleaning, dusting, vacuuming and laundry.
• Provide crisis response and contact emergency services as needed.
• Document information to client files, progress notes, and reports.
