Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division is seeking a part-time Shelter Worker to provide essential intake and supervision in a Christian shelter environment. You will support the Emergency Shelter Director, assist residents, and help maintain safety and cleanliness.

Responsibilities include intake interviews, room assignment, supervision, basic office tasks, and coordinating volunteers. Must be able to pass background checks and hold a valid driver's license as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required, and a minimum of 1 year experience.
• Strong MS Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
• Administrative skills including data entry, 10-key, filing and basic office procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake interview of incoming residents into the shelter.
• Assign a proper room; distribute bedding and personal care items.
• Provide necessary supervision of shelter and residents, ensuring rules and policies are followed.
• Answer phone calls and take messages as appropriate.
• General cleaning as necessary.
• Prepare coffee and oversee breakfast preparation and cleanup.
• Administer breathalyzer tests.
• Review logbook and update as needed.
• Perform room inspections and enforce cleaning rules.
• Distribute medications as needed.
• Be responsible for overall cleanliness of shelter areas.
• Supervise volunteers/ community service workers as assigned.
• Provide seasonal assistance as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
