Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles seeks a Lead Monitor I to coordinate and supervise monitors, provide safety training, and ensure the security and safety of shelter participants, staff and visitors. Driving ability is preferred and shifts are scheduled around the clock to maintain continuous security coverage.

The role emphasizes mentoring, incident reporting, and enforcing program rules while maintaining dignity and professional conduct across all interactions.

Qualifications

• One year of security or related human services experience.
• Ability to supervise and train monitors.
• Fingerprint clearance/background check required.
• On-site work requirement.

Responsibilities

• Assign shifts and schedule Monitors for 24/7 coverage.
• Train Monitors in safety, operations and security.
• Oversee safety practices and incident reporting.
• Monitor shelter entrance and screen bags.
• Patrol premises and ensure doors, windows, and gates are secure.
• Conduct room checks and document client compliance.
• Drive tasks for licensed Monitors where applicable.
• Complete written reports and logs daily activities.
