Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a Lead Monitor I to coordinate, supervise, mentor, and oversee Monitor staff, ensuring security of the premises and safety for clients, visitors, and employees. Driving duties are required for licensed monitors, and training in safety procedures will be provided.

The role emphasizes leading the team, providing ongoing safety oversight, and supporting program operations to maintain a secure shelter environment.

Qualifications

• Fingerprint clearance and background check required.
• One year of security, social services, or customer service experience.
• One year of college coursework or homeless training (C4C) or equivalent certificate.
• Current California driver’s license preferred; clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assign shifts and supervise Monitors to ensure 24/7 coverage.
• Train Monitors in safety, operations and security.
• Monitor shelter entrance, screen bags and persons entering shelter, and conduct room checks.
• Complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities.
• Act as a role model for participants and provide client/personal support.
• Driving tasks for licensed Monitors and transporting participants as needed.

Education
