Job summary

Homes for the Homeless seeks a dedicated Safety Aide for our Staten Island Families with Children facility. You will patrol, monitor residents, enforce rules, and assist in emergencies to keep the premises safe and comfortable.

Qualified candidates hold a NYS Security Guard License, FDNY Certificate of Fitness (F-02) within 60 days, and the 8- and 16-hour certificates; F-80 is a plus. This full-time role offers comprehensive benefits and growth in a supportive nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Security Guard License.
• Current 8-hour certificate.
• 16-hour certificate.
• F-02 (Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters). F-02 must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• F-80 (Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Patrol interior and exterior areas of building.
• Monitor the entry and exit of residents by maintaining a sign-in log and requiring identification.
• Enforce rules and regulations.
• Prepare incident reports or maintenance tickets on hazardous or dangerous conditions.
• Learn the fire safety plan and evacuation procedures and assist in fire drills.
• Prepare and assist in hazardous situations in the facility.
• Intervene in incidents and assist in emergencies throughout the building.
• Must be attentive to their post and could be standing for hours throughout their shift.
• Assist in emergency building situations (e.g. shovel snow, clean up a spill, etc.)
• Mandatory overtime which can include working a full double shift.
