Job summary

Homes for the Homeless in Queens is seeking a dedicated Safety Aide to protect residents and property at our Jamaica facility. The role requires a valid NYS Security Guard License and FDNY Fire Guard Certificate (F-02) to be obtained within 60 days of hire.

Duties include patrolling, logging resident sign-ins, enforcing rules, responding to emergencies, and assisting with fire drills. Ability to stand for long periods and to work mandatory overtime is required.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Security Guard License.
• Current 8-hour certificate.
• 16-hour certificate.
• F-02 (Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters) must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• F-80 (Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems) is a plus.
• Welcomed - T89 (Certificate of Fitness for Fire Life and Safety Director).

Responsibilities

• Patrol interior and exterior areas of building.
• Monitor the entry and exit of residents by maintaining a sign-in log and requiring identification.
• Enforce rules and regulations.
• Prepare incident reports or maintenance tickets on hazardous or dangerous conditions.
• Learn the fire safety plan and evacuation procedures and assist in fire drills.
• Prepare and assist in hazardous situations in the facility.
• Intervene in incidents and assist in emergencies throughout the building.
• Must be attentive to their post and could be standing for hours throughout their shift.
• Assist in emergency building situations (e.g. shovel snow, clean up a spill).
• Mandatory overtime which can include working a full double shift.
