Job summary

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County seeks a Shelter Support Staff to assist individuals experiencing homelessness in the shelter. Under supervision, you will monitor safety, enforce policies, and assist with intake, bed assignment, and crisis de-escalation.

The role requires a high school diploma and prior experience with unsheltered individuals, with opportunities for training and collaboration with staff and volunteers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with unsheltered individuals is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and de-escalation skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Fill Weekend/Holiday shifts as required.
  • Monitor safety and well-being of shelter participants.
  • Enforce shelter policies and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the shelter.
  • Assist new guests through intake, rule review, and bed assignment.
  • Conduct rounds to ensure safety and respond to incidents.
  • Handle inquiries by phone and referrals, document all reports.
  • Identify safety concerns and report to Shelter Program Manager.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and residents to ensure rules compliance.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
  • Maintain overnight shelter safety and enforce quiet hours when on shift.
  • Perform other duties as required.
