Job summary

The Salvation Army Centralia Shelter seeks a Shelter Supervisor to oversee nightly shelter operations, coordinate staff and volunteers, and ensure a safe, respectful environment for participants in the program.

You will follow shelter rules, maintain logs, and respond to incidents with clear documentation, while safeguarding confidentiality and coordinating with the Corps Officer as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass criminal background check.
• Must be a team player committed to helping individuals in need.
• Must handle trauma and stress-related housing situations with sensitivity.
• Must create a friendly atmosphere and build relationships with participants and staff.
• Must describe incidents in writing in logs and reports.
• Must communicate emergency situations by phone to responders and supervisors.
• No formal education required, but ability to understand diverse human behavior and crisis situations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee shelter operations and act as main contact for employee and volunteer concerns.
• Staffing and scheduling with two standard shifts, 6.5 hours plus 30-minute lunch.
• Enforce program rules, admit clients, issue bedding, and maintain space and cleanliness.
• Complete shift task sheets and follow ethics guidelines.
• Provide a warm, respectful environment and maintain daily logs of activities.
• Ensure safety through regular walk-throughs and monitoring of facilities.
• Distribute necessities and support volunteers with safety guidelines.
