Job summary

Making Opportunity Count seeks a Shelter Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of the shelter program, reporting to the Shelter Program Director and contributing to the Senior Management Team. The role focuses on maintaining service quality, staff supervision, and adherence to standards of practice.

Responsibilities include building partnerships, driving program synergies, ensuring safety, data collection, and compliance while managing staffing and performance across departments.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience or comparable combination of education and experience.
• Excellent people skills, specifically customer service skills and a capacity for collaboration.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to express technical concepts clearly.
• Familiarity with ETO programming.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse community and organizational groups.
• Ability to follow shelter guidelines on safety and emergencies.
• Experience in shelter, housing, housing stabilization, clinical service, trauma-informed care.
• Commitment to DEI and to leading cultural competency dialogues over time.

Responsibilities

• Cultivating and elevating relationships with partner agencies, vendors and community resources.
• Develop and implement strategies that maximize synergies among program areas.
• Lead hiring, recruiting, developing, coaching, and retaining staff.
• Provide proactive, outcome-driven leadership and clear communication.
• Help staff achieve KPIs across program areas with high-quality evaluation.
• Maintain accountability and drive performance standards.
• Engage in strategic and hands-on program execution and administration.
• Assist with development and analysis of outcome measures and data collection.
• Ensure client files and documentation meet quality assurance, grant reporting, and audit standards.
• Monitor health, safety, and welfare of clients and staff; ensure policies are followed.
• Provide supervision to staff delivering direct services; delegate tasks and evaluate performance.
• Provide weekly census and workforce updates to the Shelter Services Director.
• Participate in leadership meetings and ensure compliance with operating policies.
• Develop and evaluate program models and implement innovative programs.
• Other duties as assigned by leadership.
