Job summary

DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center) is seeking energized Shelter Coordinators for the West Wing Shelter in Seattle. You will manage day-to-day operations and deliver critical survival services as part of a large team dedicated to serving our most vulnerable citizens.

The position offers a Monday-Friday day shift (7:30am–4:00pm), full-time hours, and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability, plus EAP, FSA, ORCA subsidy, PTO, and retirement plan.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of homelessness and various characteristics of homeless adult populations.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff from various backgrounds and disciplines.
• Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of unpleasant and/or bizarre behavior.
• Experience with the challenges of mental illness and substance use is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain order and communicate/enforce agency rules, site rules and policies.
• Intervene in client crises (medical, mental health, interpersonal).
• Refer clients needing more extensive services to specialized program staff or to outside services, when appropriate.
• Work with and support community volunteers, case managers, mental health providers, and all other providers.
• Assist with shift transition, makes sure shift tasks are complete, conduct an end of shift walk through.
