South-Middlesex-Opportunity-Council in Worcester, MA seeks a dedicated Program Advocate to oversee shelter operations during shifts, ensuring a safe environment for clients and staff. You will monitor rounds, maintain logs, and respond to incidents, coordinating with the Program Director on issues and emergencies.

The role requires CPR/First Aid, crisis management ability, and strong interpersonal skills to assist clients with dignity while safeguarding confidentiality.

Qualifications

• CPR and First Aid certification is required.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of low income.
• Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to respond in crisis situations.
• Knowledge of substance abuse and mental illness is preferred.
• Basic computer skills to maintain training as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Be alert to shelter surroundings and responsive to issues during each shift.
• Maintain safety of clients and staff during each shift.
• Read logs and coordinate with staff on information from previous shift.
• Maintain logs and files for each shift.
• Report problems to the Program Director and emergencies to supervisor.
• Attend staff meetings and participate in training.
• Treat guests with dignity and respect, maintain confidentiality.
• Ensure rounds every 15 minutes.
• Engage clients and address needs within or outside scope of work.
• Participate in team meetings and communicate with clients and staff.
• Comply with program, agency and funder requirements.
