Job summary

The Rescue Mission in Tacoma, WA is seeking a Shelter Generalist for the Adams Street Family Campus to welcome guests and oversee shelter operations. You will assist with intake, connect residents to resources, and maintain a safe, clean environment in collaboration with a compassionate team.

We value trauma-informed, person-first care and provide comprehensive benefits. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7am–3pm; location disclosed later in the process.

Qualifications

• Experience with or serving alongside marginalized communities.
• Basic knowledge of office equipment, computers, and MS Office.
• Strong de-escalation abilities.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
• Clear, written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse team.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests, residents, volunteers, donors, and staff warmly.
• Conduct intake procedures and assessments; refer residents to resources.
• Oversee shelter operations, enforce rules, ensure safety.
• Fulfill resident requests to ensure comfort.
• Conduct shelter and campus walkthroughs every two hours.
• Research community services to assist residents.
• Answer calls and route to appropriate parties.
• Receive donations and provide receipts.
• Perform general cleaning, laundry, and sanitation.
• Enter resident data daily into databases.
• Log daily events in Shelter Generalist Shift Log.
• Manage shelter supplies and inventory.
• Complete incident reports and work requests.
• Turnover of resident quarters; laundry.
• Conduct regular unit/dorm checks.
• Maintain resident confidentiality and proper document handling.
• Administer urinalysis and breathalyzer tests as needed.
• Embody TRM values while fulfilling mission.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
