Job summary

Tacoma Rescue Mission is seeking a Shelter Generalist for our Family Shelter, to maintain a safe, welcoming, and dignified environment for guests and residents. The role involves intake, resource referrals, safe shelter operations, and daily data entry while supporting trauma-informed, person-first services.

Work hours are Monday–Friday, 7am–3pm, at the Adams Street Family Campus. Applicants should be able to handle a fast-paced environment, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate effectively

Qualifications

• Experience with or alongside marginalized communities.
• Basic operating knowledge of office equipment and Microsoft Office.
• Effective de-escalation skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
• Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication.
• Ability to collaborate in a diverse team.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests, residents, volunteers, donors, and team members warmly.
• Complete intake procedures and provide referrals to resources.
• Ensure shelter rules and safety protocols are followed.
• Maintain shelter cleanliness and daily routines.
• Enter resident data daily into databases.
• Record daily happenings in the shift log.
