Job summary

Tacoma Rescue Mission is seeking a Shelter Generalist for the Adams Street Family Campus to maintain a safe, clean, welcoming environment for guests and residents. You will support intake, resource referrals, and ongoing shelter operations with a trauma-informed, person-first approach.

The role involves documenting daily activities, coordinating with staff, and ensuring confidentiality while assisting during Sunday-Thursday overnight shifts (11pm–7am).

Qualifications

• Experience working with or serving alongside marginalized communities.
• Basic operating knowledge of office equipment, computers, and Microsoft Office.
• Effective de-escalation skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
• Clear and effective written, verbal, and electronic communication.

Responsibilities

• Greets guests, residents, volunteers, donors, and team members warmly.
• Manages intake procedures and provides residents with referrals to resources.
• Oversees shelter operations, ensuring rules and shelter protocol are followed and residents are safe.
• Performs daily cleaning tasks, laundry, and sanitation duties.
• Keeps the Shelter Generalist Shift Log and documents incidents and activities.
• Maintains inventory of shelter supplies and communicates needs to management.
• Answers incoming calls and routes inquiries to the appropriate staff.
