Job summary

The People Concern in Santa Monica, CA is seeking a Support Specialist to serve as the first point of contact for clients experiencing homelessness and related challenges. You will monitor floors, facilitate activities, document case information, and collaborate with a dedicated team to provide wraparound care that supports client progress.

You will engage clients with empathy, conduct crisis interventions, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment aligned with program guidelines and HIPAA

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent.
• Minimum one year experience in related work.
• Customer service skills and the ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Ability to act professionally under all circumstances.
• Commitment to improving the community through empowerment and dignity.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention.
• Familiarity with issues faced by the population served.
• Self-motivation and ability to motivate others.
• Computer literacy; able to use computerized database system for information management.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Food Handlers, CPR and First Aid certification (must obtain).
• Proactive in continued professional development.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point-of-contact for immediate client needs and requests.
• Monitor and oversee the floor and ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Be visible on the floor and actively engage clients.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs.
• Create a supportive environment to promote client progress.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings and retreats as scheduled.
• Oversee client cubicle/bed area maintenance.
• Facilitate client engagement activities.
• Document incidents and logs; update HMIS as needed.
• Develop relationships with clients using trauma-informed approaches.
• Intervene during crises to de-escalate situations.
• Collaborate with team to provide integrated care.
• Communicate effectively with management, peers, and clients.
• Maintain client confidentiality per laws.
