Job summary

The People Concern is seeking a Support Specialist for 100% onsite work at the Cloverfield Services Center in Santa Monica. You will be the first point of contact for client needs, oversee floor operations, and facilitate activities to support client progress toward stability.

You will maintain documentation in HMIS, participate in team meetings, and collaborate to provide comprehensive care to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and substance use disorders.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Minimum one year experience in related work.
• Effective customer service skills and the ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Professional demeanor regardless of circumstances.
• Commitment to improving the community through empowerment and dignity.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention.
• Familiarity with issues faced by population served.
• Computer literate; able to use computerized database system for information management.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Able to obtain and maintain Food Handlers, CPR and first aid certification.
• Demonstrate an ability to take initiative towards continued professional development.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for client needs (phone, linens, water, etc.).
• Monitor floors and common areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Be visible on the floor and engage with clients.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs.
• Create a supportive environment to promote client progress toward stability.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Oversee client cubicle/bed area maintenance.
• Facilitate client engagement activities and groups.
• Complete incident reports and update shift logs; email updates before shift end.
• Build trusting client relationships using motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
• Intervene during crises to de-escalate situations with safety in mind.
• Collaborate with team to provide integrated care.
• Communicate effectively with management, peers, and clients.
• Maintain client confidentiality per agency/state/HIPAA laws.
