Job summary

Yarde Metals is seeking a Shear Operator for the 2nd shift at our Southington, CT location. You will set up, operate, and tend the shear to safely cut material to customer specifications.

Candidates should have forklift and warehouse experience, basic measurement skills, and the ability to read work orders in English. This role demands attention to detail and physical capability, including lifting up to 70 lbs.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Warehouse, material handling, and forklift experience required.
• Experience related to operating a saw is strongly preferred.
• Must read, understand, and carry out work instructions in English.
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Must read and understand basic measurement functions (ruler, caliper)
• Consistent high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen, physical, meet physical requirements.
• Pass a human performance evaluation for lifting up to 70 lbs and related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Read work orders and production schedules to determine specs, materials, locations of cuts, dimensions and tolerances.
• Set up shear for safe operation by adjusting speeds and feeds.
• Visually identify material alloys, forms, sizes, surface conditions, and defects.
• Measure material using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, squares and verniers.
• Safely operate various shears as needed.
• Verify dimensions per quality sampling plan.
• Locate, retrieve, and return material using overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Inspect finished pieces for defects and conformance to specs.
• Package and protect material for shipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of shear per procedures.

Job Summary

Yarde Metals is looking for a shear operator to join our Operations Team. A Shear Operator sets up, operates, and tends to the shear to safely cut material into pieces as ordered by the customer.

Job Responsibilities

• SAFETY FIRST!
• Reading work orders and production schedules to determine specifications, such as material to be used, locations of cuts, dimensions and tolerances.
• Setting up shear for safe operation by adjusting speeds and feeds.
• Visually identifying material alloys, forms, sizes, surface conditions, and obvious material defects.
• Measuring material in accordance with quality procedures prior to cutting, using measuring devices including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, squares and verniers.
• Safely operating various shears as required based on work load or business needs.
• Measuring the dimensions of material per quality sampling plan to ensure accuracy of cuts.
• Locating, retrieving and returning material to designated areas using motorized material handling equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Reselecting material in inventory system.
• Examining completed work pieces for defects and to verify conformance to customer specifications.
• Stacking and sorting finished products for packaging, processing and shipment.
• Packaging and protecting material for shipment.
• Cleaning shear according to designated maintenance procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications
