Qualifications

• Previous steel, metals, manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial experience preferred.
• Product knowledge preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn and operate industrial equipment.
• Good basic math skills.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, work orders, and customer specifications.
• Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts; certification required.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
• High school diploma, technical training, or equivalent experience preferred.

Position Summary

Harbor Steel is seeking a dependable and motivated Shear & Grinder Operator to join our team.

This position is responsible for operating both shear and grinding equipment to safely and accurately process steel and other metal products according to customer specifications. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining quality, productivity, safety, equipment, and housekeeping standards while working in a fast-paced industrial environment.

• Operate shear and grinder equipment safely and efficiently.
• Shear and grind steel and other metal products according to customer specifications.
• Review work orders and production requirements to ensure accurate processing and maximum material utilization.
• Check material to maintain proper tolerances, dimensions, and squareness.
• Perform in-process inspections and complete IPIR documentation as required.
• Operate and maintain grinder and shear equipment, including maintaining appropriate oil levels and oiling plates as required.
• Accurately measure material using tape measures, micrometers, C-micrometers, depth micrometers, and calipers.
• Package finished material according to customer specifications.
• Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move and position material.
• Utilize the process scheduler and other production systems as required.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance checks on equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by removing debris, boards, banding, shavings, and other materials.
• Follow company 5S, quality, and safety standards.
• Assist with other warehouse and production functions as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical & Safety Requirements

Employees must be able to:

• Lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Work safely around heavy steel, moving materials, and industrial equipment.
• Stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Work the shifts required by management.
