Job summary

Savage is hiring a Safety Supervisor to implement the SH&E plan and support multiple operations in the Safford area. You will train staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead safety audits across Mine and Transportation operations at Safford and Morenci sites.

Ideal candidates bring strong OSHA/MSHA knowledge, industrial safety experience, and a proactive mindset to prevent incidents while coordinating with Operations Managers on safety improvements and customer-driven safety programs.

Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of safety, including OSHA, MSHA, DOT.
  • Experience in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to analyze situations and data to make sound decisions.
  • Training experience preferred.
  • Computer skills (MS Office).
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.
  • Detail-oriented and self-starter with ability to prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Operation Manager and Supervisors to implement safety portions of the S7 System.
  • Develop and deliver procedural and regulatory training; track and report completion.
  • Support execution of MSHA requirements for the customer.
  • Establish proactive SH&E processes to prevent incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safety procedures.
  • Lead safety audits and root-cause investigations; implement corrective actions.
  • Spend time in the field observing frontline activities and tracking leading indicators.
  • Assist Operations Leaders during incidents with hazard assessments for non-routine tasks.

The Basics

Days/Hours: Full-time; Schedule may vary based on operational needs

Travel Expectations: Less than 20%

The Safety Supervisor is responsible for implementing and executing the safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) plan, providing SH&E support for FMI Safford Mine, Morenci Mine, Sulphur Transportation Operation, and meeting site-specific SH&E strategy requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Work closely with the Operation Manager and Supervisors to implement all safety-related portions of Savage’s S7 System.
  • Development and delivery of procedural and regulatory training. Regularly track and report training completion in addition to scheduling as needed.
  • Support execution of customer’s operating requirements, specifically MSHA requirements.
  • Establish a proactive SH&E process toward incident prevention.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure Team Members follow proper safety rules, procedures, and processes.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, including OSHA, MSHA, FRA, DOT, and EPA.
  • Interface with key customer SH&E and operations contacts and assist operations in implementing and executing customer-driven programs or emphasis areas (including regular involvement with the Mine’s Contractor Safety Team).
  • Steward the Lead Safety Specialist and Safety Specialist program for Safford Transportation and Transloading Operations.
  • Ensure incidents are properly reported to internal and external parties.
  • Lead Savage team on internal and customer safety audits.
  • Lead the root cause investigation process to completion while ensuring sustainable corrective actions are implemented to avoid repeat events.
  • Routinely spend time in the field with front-line Team Members and observe field activities.
  • Track leading indicators to address trends at the Safford Maintenance Office, Morenci Mine, and Safford Mine.
  • Support Operations Leaders during incidents by responding as needed and completing Hazard Assessments before Non-Routine tasks involving Savage Team Members.
What You Need To Be Successful

Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or a related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in the Transportation or Mine Operations.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in an industrial setting with Transportation Equipment or Mines.
  • Hold a safety certification recognized by an accredited organization or be able to obtain certification within the first 12 months. Examples include ASP, SMS, OHST, or CET.
Physical Requirements
  • 10% travel required
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to climb ladders or stairs
  • Ability to work at waist level or below
  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment, as well as outdoors in changing weather conditions
  • Willing to always wear appropriate PPE when needed and set an example
