Job summary

Arlington County Government is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator for the Water, Sewer and Streets program within the Department of Environmental Services. The role involves operating specialized trucks and heavy equipment to support sewer construction and maintenance, with emphasis on safety and maintenance responsibilities.

Core duties include operating sewer flusher and vacuum trucks, performing preventive maintenance, and assisting with snow removal and emergency response.

Qualifications

• Formal education requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience operating heavy equipment in public works or related field.
• CDL with Tanker endorsement required or as described in the posting.

Responsibilities

• Operate sewer flusher and sewer vacuum (Vactor) trucks and related equipment.
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance; assist with sewer line flushing and cleaning.
• Load and operate dump trucks (medium and tandem) and other equipment.
• Operate sewer line cameras and related inspection equipment.
• Participate in snow removal and respond to weather-related emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by crew leader or supervisor.
