Job summary

Dorchester County is seeking a full-time Equipment Operator to operate heavy and specialized equipment in the maintenance and construction of county roads, water/sewer, and stormwater systems. The role involves independent work under general supervision, with duties including equipment inspection, routine maintenance, and supporting other Public Works operations.

Responsibilities include operating various trucks and machinery, manual loading/unloading, fiel dwork, and assisting pump station

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• One year of college or technical training or equivalent.
• Two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment to excavate and compact earth, construct roads and perform drainage work.
• May operate dump trucks, service trucks, graders, loaders and other support vehicles.
• Inspects equipment to ensure safe operation; reports defects and performs routine maintenance.
• Performs hydro excavation of sewer lines and related camera/inspection tasks as needed.
• Maintains pump stations, sewer lines and manholes and assists pump station crews.
• Follows all safety policies; may be on-call and respond to emergencies as required.
• Provides leadership to less-experienced operators when needed and attends trainings.
