Job summary

Malman Law in Chicago, IL is hiring a Disbursement Clerk to assist with the preparation, coordination, and processing of case disbursements and settlement-related payments. You will work closely with attorneys, paralegals, finance, and operations to ensure accurate handling of funds and related documents.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to handle confidential financial information, and comfortable in a deadline-driven legal environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process settlement disbursements following firm procedures.
• Review settlement statements, invoices, liens, and docs for accuracy.
• Coordinate payments with attorneys, paralegals, medical providers, vendors, and clients.
• Track incoming/outgoing settlement funds and maintain records.
• Verify payee information and ensure internal controls are followed.
• Assist with check requests, wire transfers, and related accounting docs.
• Monitor deadlines and follow up on outstanding disbursement items.
• Maintain confidentiality of client financial and case information.
• Support clients in person and by phone with settlement questions.
• Perform additional administrative tasks as needed.
