Job summary

McGrath Hyundai Volkswagen of Dubuque is seeking a dependable Service Lane Assistant to support our busy service department. This hands-on role moves vehicles, assists Service Advisors, and helps day-to-day operations. You will gain exposure to repair orders, dealership systems, and the overall service process.

This position offers a path into a Service Advisor role and a supportive team culture, with opportunities to learn and grow within the McGrath organization.

Responsibilities

• Move customer vehicles out of the service lane and stage them in designated areas
• Assist Service Advisors with vehicle movement, paperwork, customer needs, and daily service lane operations
• Maintain an organized and efficient flow of vehicles through the service department
• Use dealership computer systems to assist with service-related tasks and vehicle information
• Gain exposure to Service Advisor responsibilities, repair orders, and dealership service processes
• Keep the service lane, customer areas, and vehicle staging areas clean and organized
• Assist with snow and ice removal around the service drive and dealership as needed
• Support technicians, Service Advisors, and management with additional department responsibilities as assigned

Location: Dubuque, IA
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM with Lunch | Occasional Saturdays

About the Opportunity

McGrath Hyundai Volkswagen of Dubuque is seeking a dependable, organized, and customer-focused Service Lane Assistant to support our busy service department. This hands‑on role helps keep the service drive running efficiently by moving vehicles, assisting Service Advisors, and supporting the day-to-day needs of the department.

This position is also a great stepping stone into a Service Advisor career. You’ll work directly alongside experienced Service Advisors and gain hands‑on exposure to customer communication, repair orders, dealership systems, service processes, and the overall operation of a successful automotive service department.

For someone who demonstrates strong customer service, reliability, organization, and a willingness to learn, this role provides an opportunity to develop the skills and experience needed to grow into a Service Advisor position within McGrath.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Comfortable navigating computer systems and learning dealership‑specific software and technology
• Reliable, punctual, and dependable work history
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Friendly and professional communication skills
• Customer-focused attitude and willingness to assist customers when needed
• Ability to safely drive, park, and maneuver a variety of vehicles
• Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to work independently while supporting Service Advisors and the service team
• Willingness to assist with snow removal and other physical dealership tasks
• Previous dealership, automotive service, porter, valet, or customer service experience preferred, but not required
