Qualifications

Job description

The job of Service Coordinator was established for the purpose/s of serving as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for DCIU Early Intervention programs and services; Develop individualized education programs and coordinate services between DCIU, family, and contracted providers for classroom and related services.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of delivering relevant and appropriate services to the student.
  • Facilitate And Participate in a variety of written materials (e.g. evaluation reports and individual education programs etc.) for the purpose of producing all mandated forms and procedures within established timelines.
  • Maintains current knowledge of early childhood education (e.g. best practices, special education methodologies, evaluation instruments, and assessment techniques) for the purpose of applying them to early intervention.
  • Maintains current knowledge of state and federal special education regulations including accessing basic education circulars and OCDEL announcements for the purpose of ensuring compliance.
  • Manages a student caseload for the purpose of assuring all services on the IEP are delivered to children and families within timelines.
  • Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, LEA’s, districts, behavior support consultants etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
  • Supports classroom teachers, families, and staff members for the purpose of assisting them in the ER/IEP process.
  • Understand services for a variety of disabilities, placement options and children in the transition process (e.g. birth to three to EI , EI to school age) for the purpose of ensuring student access to IEP services.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians for the purpose of helping families access community educational resources, and medical assistance.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with teachers, therapists and agencies for the purpose of meeting the needs of eligible preschoolers.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Participates in data collection for the purpose of ACCESS reimbursement.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education Required:Bachelor’s Degree in job related area; Master’s degree preferred

Certification Required:Valid PDE certification in Special Education

Experience Required:Job related experience required
