Job summary

Kellogg Center is seeking a student worker to provide supervisory support to REHS Neighborhood Coordinators and to assist with supervising Level 1–3 student staff. You will help with scheduling, payroll reviews, training material creation, and policy implementation while maintaining excellent customer service on campus.

Open to MSU students; 16 hours per week, including nights and weekends, with potential summer availability.

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year).
  • Demonstrate commitment to outstanding customer service.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter and able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) and be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population.
  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Must be able to return early in the fall semester to assist with scheduling and training.
  • Must be able to work Move in Weekend.
  • Must be able to work through finals week.
  • Must be able to work nights and/or weekends.
  • Must be able to work over semester breaks and holidays (if needed).
  • Be able to lead and motivate a team.
  • Preference given to candidates with prior experience in management.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must have experience as a Level 2 Supervisor.
  • Must have worked as a SCR for at least 6 months.
  • Must be able to work 16 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Assigned duties of student development and training of staff.
  • Acting as an ambassador and resource for neighborhood partners and other student staff.
  • Being knowledgeable and aware of all pertinent neighborhood and REHS resources and events.
  • Email: monitoring and responding to messages in the supervisor account and your own RHS Outlook inbox.
  • Supervising student employees on assigned shifts to ensure procedures are followed.
  • Assisting with review of payroll dailies and time sheets.
  • Assisting with managing of substitute information; entering into scheduling program and communicating information to staff.
  • Assisting with putting together and presenting training materials (on-boarding new hires, monthly meetings with both operational and developmental components).
  • Assisting with special projects as assigned by the Neighborhood Coordinator.
  • Assisting in implementing new policies.
  • Communicating information via email, D2L, and verbally to SCR /NR staff.

Job Description

Location: Rivertrail Neighborhood – McDonel/Owen

Pay Rate: $17.00/hr.

Provide supervisory support to Residence Education and Housing Services ( REHS ) Neighborhood Coordinators, assisting with the supervision of Level 1 and Level 2 student staff. Level 3 SCRs should function as a role model for the Level 1 and Level 2 SCR and NR staff members by following all university and departmental policies and procedures, and by supporting decisions made by the management staff and the department. Deliver Outstanding Spartan Experiences and contribute to the safety and security of all residents, guests and other Partners or customers that may need assistance during any assigned shifts. Perform tasks for the Service Centers in support of the Neighborhood Administrative Coordinators (NACs).

Successful candidates will learn “real world” work skills such as time management, professional excellence, balancing of priorities, interpersonal communication, and working as a part of a diverse team. Successful candidates will also gain a deep understanding of how an office functions and how to build relationships while demonstrating outstanding customer service.
