Job summary

McGrath Automotive Group is seeking a Service Advisor/Service Writer to join the Dubuque Volkswagen service team. You will bridge customers and technicians, documenting service needs and guiding repairs while ensuring an exceptional customer experience.

• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable discussing and recommending automotive services and repairs with customers.
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple repair orders in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organization, follow-through, and time management skills.
• Positive, professional attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and provide a welcoming, professional experience in the service lane.
• Listen to customer concerns and accurately document vehicle service needs.
• Create, update, and manage repair orders throughout the service process.
• Communicate with technicians regarding vehicle concerns, inspections, and recommended repairs.
• Explain recommended maintenance and repairs clearly so customers can make informed decisions.
• Present and sell recommended services and maintenance based on vehicle needs.
• Provide customers with estimates and keep them updated on repair status and completion times.
• Coordinate vehicle workflow to help keep the service department running efficiently.
• Follow up with customers and help resolve questions or concerns.
• Build lasting customer relationships through communication, trust, and excellent service.
• Work closely with technicians, parts, and other dealership departments to provide a seamless customer experience.

About the Opportunity

Dubuque Volkswagen is growing our service team and looking for a customer-focused Service Advisor / Service Writer to join our fast-paced service department in Dubuque.

As a Service Advisor, you’ll be the connection between our customers and technicians, helping customers understand their vehicle’s service needs, keeping them informed throughout the repair process, and making sure they receive an exceptional experience from start to finish.

If you have experience as an Automotive Service Advisor, Service Writer, Customer Service Advisor, or in a customer-facing sales role, this could be a great opportunity to take the next step in your automotive career.

What You’ll Do

Requirements

• Previous Automotive Service Advisor, Service Writer, dealership, sales, or customer-facing experience preferred


• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Comfortable discussing and recommending automotive services and repairs with customers


• Ability to multitask and manage multiple customers and repair orders in a fast-paced environment


• Strong organization, follow-through, and time management skills


• Confident problem-solving skills and a customer-first mindset


• Positive, professional attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team


• Comfortable learning dealership software and automotive service processes


• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record


• Willingness to complete a pre-employment background check
