Job summary

NIIC National Interstate Insurance Company seeks a CA Senior Workers' Comp Claims Specialist to join the team. The role offers hybrid work from Richfield, OH four days a week or full remote work from anywhere in the USA, with on‑site expectations as needed.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. The ideal candidate will manage complex claims, lead investigations, negotiate settlements, and ensure accurate documentation while mentoring others.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling.
• Professional designation such as Associate in Claims (AIC) preferred.
• CA Workers' Compensation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
• Leads comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and determine liability, compensability and damages.
• Analyzes and negotiates appropriate claim settlements/reserves within authority.
• May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Conveys complex information regarding coverage and settlements to insureds, claimants, and external partners.
• Authorizes payments within assigned authority limit, ensuring timely disbursement.
• Maintains detailed claim files with all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
• May supervise staff and participate in talent decisions for direct reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
