Job description

University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Pharmacy (SOP)is currently seeking a Senior Web Content Specialist for the Officeof Communication and Marketing team within the Dean'sAdministration. The Senior Web Content Specialist managescontent for the School of Pharmacy's public website ( www.pharmacy.umaryland.edu) and affiliate websites, including the News Center, Inside SOPblog, and the School's section of the campus Elm website. Thisperson provides strategic oversight of the School's online brandand web presences, implements content in the CMS, and conductsday-to-day management of web content, including curation andgeneration of new content that promotes the School's mission andvalues. Content management tasks include performing regular updatesacross the site, maintaining website accessibility, and workingwith departments, centers, programs, and the School's faculty andstaff members to ensure that content is accurate and appropriate.The position also serves as the primary writer for the School'sonline News Center, writing and publishing stories about Schoolevents, grants, contracts, initiatives, academics, research, andpractice programs.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Create, develop, and control content for Internet-basedapplications to meet the needs of the School's web brand tocommunicate internally and externally.
• Write content for the School's website, including featurestories, blog posts, and other content for the homepage andinterior pages.
• Work with School faculty on the creation and maintenance offaculty profile websites and department, center, and programpages.
• Maintain the information architecture of the website.
• Develop a review schedule to ensure departments, programs,centers, and faculty profile content on the School's website iscurrent. Identify and implement web content strategies to improveinternal and external communications. Create and implementtemplates for new websites and pages for School events, programs,and initiatives.
• Acts as an editor in gathering, writing, and organizinginformation for the web, including current and future informationalmaterials. This may include: individual meetings with members ofthe School community, monitoring communications within the School,acting as a central point of contact for web content and specialprojects.
• Manage web-based initiatives requiring technical assistance,including special website design initiatives, development ofspecialized graphics/images for use on the web and special eventweb sites and RSVP forms.
• Coordinate with the School's administration, instructionaltechnology staff, web development staff, and campus communicationsstaff on design implementation and accessibility of the School'swebsites.
• Maintain compliance with W3C Web Content AccessibilityGuidelines (WCAG 2.1 or higher) .
• Design custom site analytics reporting for departments,centers, programs, and faculty.
• May perform administrative responsibilities, such as assistingwith events.
• Be cross-trained on marketing and communications platforms suchas social media and Constant Contact to provide coverage andongoing communications when fellow team members are absent.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of thisrole.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in public relations, computerscience, communications, marketing, journalism, businessadministration, or closely related field. Bachelor's in Englishpreferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Four (4) years of experience in communications,journalism, technical writing, marketing, or web development.Experience in writing for an educational institution or onscientific topics for broad audiences is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices forweb writing and editing, knowledge of writing content specificallyfor the web.
• Expertise in using the web for brand management anddevelopment.
• Demonstrated proficiency using content management systems toedit and develop new content, experience using Terminal 4preferred.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 web accessibility standards andimplementation experience. Experience supporting WCAG 2.1 Level AAaccessibility compliance preferred.
• Strong grammar and editing skills, with ability to write in avariety of styles for multiple audiences, and evaluate copy forclarity, consistency, and accuracy.
• Knowledge of position requirements.
• Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, andlaws.
• Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and writtenthoughts, ideas, and facts.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others andindependently.

HIRING RANGE:

$72,000 - $80,000 per year / Commensurate witheducation and experience
