Job summary

Brown and Caldwell is seeking a Senior-level Engineer / Project Engineer in our Richmond, VA office to lead design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure. You will oversee civil design teams, coordinate with partners, and manage scope, schedule, and budget while mentoring junior staff.

You should have 5+ years in civil engineering, a PE license or progress towards one, and experience with project management plans, QA/QC, BIM, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Typically 5+ years of civil engineering experience.
• PE license preferred or in progress; ability to obtain within 6 months.
• BC SMS Framework certification expected or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Support project delivery by planning, design, and creation of civil engineering plans, specs, and reports.
• Support PM delivery requirements: PM plan, QA plan, BIM execution plan, risk register, design log, change log.
• Verify regulatory compliance and resolve conflicts with codes and permits.
• Supervise site investigations, subsurface utility engineering, and data incorporation into design.
• Lead construction-phase services: RFI responses, submittal reviews, change directives.
• Oversee cost estimates and project schedules; mentor junior staff.
• Provide guidance to leadership on level-of-effort for civil elements of water/wastewater projects.
