Job summary

Gresham Smith in Nashville seeks a Water/Wastewater Treatment Engineer to lead municipal and industrial facility projects across the Southeast, focusing on planning, design, and implementation.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure design excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainable outcomes.

Qualifications

• PE license in applicable southeastern states.
• 10+ years of experience with a primary focus on municipal water and wastewater treatment facility design.
• Strong knowledge of process design principles, equipment selection, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and design of municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities, including plant upgrades, expansions, and regulatory-driven improvements.
• Prepare and review process designs, calculations, drawings, specs, and cost estimates for treatment projects.
• Apply engineering judgment in selecting/optimizing unit processes (physical, chemical, biological, disinfection, solids handling).
• Conduct/process modeling using BioWin or similar platforms to support design decisions.
• Prepare/review planning and design-level technical reports and memos.
• Support construction-phase services: reviewing submittals, RFIs, startup and commissioning.
• Collaborate with civil, electrical, structural, mechanical teams for fully coordinated designs.
• Mentor junior staff and foster long-term client relationships.
