Job summary

University of Minnesota in the College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a licensed Veterinary Technician to deliver high-quality ICU support and direct patient care in a fast-paced academic clinical environment.

You will support student and staff education, clinical research activities, and hospital operations while maintaining excellent patient care and customer service. This 100% in-person role emphasizes collaboration, safety, and professional development.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in Minnesota with 1+ year veterinary tech experience.
• Graduate of AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program or equivalent education.
• Strong problem solving, organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service abilities.
• Professional, reliable, and ethical conduct; work in fast-paced teaching hospital.
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology and clinical practices; restraint of small animals.
• Proficiency with computer software, medical records, and hospital applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide 70% direct patient care, technical support, and teaching in Small Animal ICU.
• Document patient observations, vital signs, and nursing notes.
• Assist with CPR, lab sample handling, venous access, drugs, fluids, and transfusions.
• Perform radiographic positioning, procedure prep, and equipment maintenance.
• Support clinical operations, inventory, infection control, and safety standards.
• Lead and guide Veterinary Assistants; participate in team-based care.
